Key Aspects of Web Design
Web design is basically defined as the process of designing a website and writing mark up for a client and it encompasses several skills and disciplines in the production and maintenance of the website. Web graphic design, interface design, user experience design, search engine optimization and authoring which include standardized code and proprietary software are some of the skills and disciplines encompassed in web design. One should always have knowledge regarding web usability which is the ease of use of a website during the process of web design. Web designers who are given the role of creating markup should be up to date with all the available web accessibility guidelines. Different web designers work together during web design covering the different aspects of web design although some can do it all together. Web design is related to web engineering which majorly focuses on methodologies, techniques, and tools that form the foundation for web application development which supports their design, development, evolution, and evaluation.
Depending on the part of production processes one is involved in during web design, different variety of tools are used which keeps on being updated by newer standards and software. Creating of web formatted imagery and design prototypes uses two major graphics editor referred to as vector and raster graphics. Vectors graphics use polygon to represent images in graphics which can be saved in any vector graphics format such as WMF and PDF. In raster graphics, dot matrix data structure representing a grid of pixels or points of color viewable on a monitor are used which can be saved in any bitmap or raster format such as JPEG and GIF. There are several technologies used in web design including the W3C standards like HTML and CSS. Online proprietary tools provided by web hosting companies which are intended for users to build their private site or it can be done by an offline software running on a computer creating pages and then these pages can be published on any host can be used during web design to create a website. Markup validators for checking validity and other testing tools for usability and accessibility to ensure all the guidelines for web accessibility have been met are also used in the process of web design.
A web designer works hand in hand with a web developer in the web design process when creating a website. The major focus of a web designer is the visual aspects of a web page which includes the layout coloring and typography. Markup language in web design which is a system involved in annotating a document in a way that it is syntactically distinguishable from a text such as the HTML and CSS is quite important for a web designer to be conscious of.
